Volleyball Seniors

For The Whit I had to cover the three seniors on the volleyball team. I decided to pull out my flashes and do a simple portrait of the three before the game. When shooting athletes before a game, the time you have with the athletes is very limited. I had about five minutes before they started warming up to get. I decided to use a single flash shot threw an umbrella on the left of the camera. I liked the simple light that it gave out.

For the actual game I was assigned to get action shots of the seniors.

Recent Pitman Soccer

As I sit in Rowan's gym waiting for Volleyball to start, I realized that I haven't written anything in the past few days. Here are a couple pictures from the past few Pitman Boys and Girls soccer games.

PItman vs Salem Boys Soccer

Pitman had it season opener Monday against Salem after Fridays game was postponed due to rain. Pitman won the game 1 - 0. I was able to get some pics of the first half.

Volleyball Vs. Wesley College

On Tuesday Rowan Volleyball played Wesley College. Rowan was on a three game winning streak coming into the game. Rowan won the first the first two games of the match, then lost the next two, causing the match to come down to the fifth game. Rowan won the fifth match and extended their winning streak to 4 games.

Saturday Sports

On Saturday Rowan had a plethora of athletic events. Volleyball played two games, field hockey and men's soccer both played at home, women's soccer played at Stockton, and Cross-Country was at the Sea Gull Invitational. For The Whit I covered the first volleyball game and the field hockey game.

After The first volleyball game was over I had to cover field hockey. Rowan was playing their home against Haverford College.

Stienways

On Friday, Rowan Department of Music held a press event announcing they were switching to all Steinway pianos. It was the usual press event speeches, set-up photo-ops, and free food. I tried to not take too many of the usual press event pics (the ones of someone standing and talking.)

Because I was shooting for The Whit (Rowan's student paper) I decided to focus on the students that were playing the new pianos. All the student performances were great, better than I could ever dream about doing.

The hardiest part about shooting the event was trying to keep clean backgrounds. With all the people playing piano, meeting and greeting, and the other photographers shooting, there were a lot of people in a small area.

After a while, there are only so many ways to photograph a student playing piano. I decided to try something different and go for a detail shot. Shooting things differently keeps me from getting bored and gives my editor something different to choose from.

After the event was over, when I was walking out of Wilson Hall I noticed the sky was cool, so I decided to try and get a good shot of the building. I like the way the sections of the roof seem to overlap in the pic.

PItman Soccer Scrimmage

Pitman High School Boys had there first scrimmage today against Sterling. I like preseason scrimmages because it gives me a chance to brush up on shooting sports that I haven't shot in a while.
