This year I was determined to shoot a sunrise at the beach. The last time I shot a sunrise I was in High School. In the years since then, getting up at 5am still isn't any easier.
In this shot, I decided to use the pier to hide the sun. If i didn't position the sun behind the pier I would have had to either underexpose the image more than I already had or let the sun blow out and detail it would have had.
After an hour or two of just shooting the sun and pier, I got kinda bored. When this happens I usually look for a different way to do things. I decided to look for some good foreground elements because it was a simple task. When I have to get up early simple tasks are my friend.
